What is Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)?
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of people who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.
The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking.  There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

What is District 37?
Introduction
The basic unit in Alcoholics Anonymous is the group, which is autonomous, except in matters affecting other AA groups or the Fellowship as a whole. These groups are combined into Districts. Each group elects a General Service Representative (GSR) to attend the monthly meeting of the District in which it is geographically located. The GSRs elect a District Committee Member (DCM) to represent the collective “group conscience” of the District and to participate in service activities of the Area Committee.

District 37
District 37 is geographically comprised of the AA groups in the Lehigh and Northampton counties that are located on the east side of the Lehigh River.  District 37 is part of Area 59, which is a part of the Eastern Pennsylvania General Service Assembly (EPGSA). All present and future groups in the District are welcomed and encouraged to
participate in District Committee and Area activities.

The District Committee
The District Committee is made up of the District Officers and the General Service Representatives (GSRs) of each group in the District who elects to participate.

Statement of Purpose
The purpose of the District Committee is to facilitate communication between the Groups, the District, the Area, and the General Service Office (GSO) by means of the General Service Conference. The Committee also promotes and contributes to the well-being and growth of the District. It encourages fellowship, and provides a forum for discussion of group problems and experiences, always keeping the AA Traditions in mind.

Responsibility Pledge
"I am responsible when anyone, anywhere reaches out for help. I want the hand of AA always to be there, and for that I am responsible"

The District Officers include the District Committee Member (DCM), the Alternate District Committee Member (ADCM), the Secretary, and the Treasurer.

DCM: Melissa A

The DCM is an essential link between the group’s GSR and the Area’s Delegate to the General Service Conference. As leader of the District Committee, the DCM is exposed to the group conscience of that district. As a member of the Area Committee, they are able to pass on this thinking to the Area Delegate and the Area Committee.

ADCM: Laura F

The ADCM serves as district liaison to ABE Intergroup and as backup for the DCM. If the latter resigns – or for any reason is unable to serve – the alternate steps in. They also assist, participate, and share in the DCM's responsibilities, attending Area functions whenever possible. Also serves as Bridging the Gap coordinator for District 37.

Secretary: Jared B

The Secretary records the committee meeting's minutes and serves to facilitate communication of  information from the General Service Conference, EPGSA, Area 59 and District 37 Committee to the GSR's. Also serves as intermediary for general correspondence to and from District and as web servant.

Treasurer: Bernie B

The Treasurer serves to collect and record group contributions to district. They maintain the district bank account and disburse funds on behalf of the committee. Financial reports are given monthly.

Panel 71 Subcommittees of District 37

Subcommittees are created by, and are responsible to, the District Committee. They do not set policy or decide issues, but they may make recommendations to the District Committee. Each Panel will decide which subcommittees will be formed. The subcommittees will consist of GSRs and Chairpersons who may volunteer, be elected, or be appointed.

Structure:

This committee is responsible for the ongoing review of the District structure, making recommendations for change if there is a consensus for such.
Visitation:
Members visit groups in an effort to reach those currently inactive in the District and provide education about the role and benefits of having an active GSR. This committee can also be instrumental in verifying if specific meetings are still being held.
Workshop:
Coordinates all aspects of District workshops. They can be independently run or done in conjunction with other Districts or Intergroup. This committee encourages participation in Area activities.
Finance:
A budget, emphasizing anticipated Committee expenses, shall be completed by the Finance committee for the upcoming year and submitted for an acceptance vote at the December meeting. This allows the District and each individual Group to be more aware of what monies are needed, and how the District will spend these monies. Contributions from the groups are imperative in order for the District to function properly. The committee will also re- assess the prudent reserve amount, if deemed appropriate.
Historian:
Our District Historian is Dennis D. He works to preserve the experiences, strengths, and hopes of the groups in this district so they can be shared in the future. Is the liaison between District 37 and the Area Archives Subcommittee
